The Android operating system has made an appearance on a rather large number of smartphones released in recent years. Manufacturers have fallen in love with the OS and are eager to use it on the handsets they release. Samsung is one such company and have taken great strides using Android technology. With the new Samsung Galaxy, they have succeeded once more in staking their claim as a major player in the Android smartphone market.

Customers do not want to feel as if they are lugging around ankle weights in their pockets, a fact with which Samsung is familiar. The Samsung Galaxy is comparably slim and slender to other smartphones of its type, measuring 122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9mm and weighing scant 119g. The contouring of the shell recalls the iPhone 3GS, with its black plastic and metal contrasts. This is certainly not a deal breaker, but some users may be a little disappointed that the style does not exactly distinguish the Galaxy from another handset.

The Samsung Galaxy definitely distinguishes itself with a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, reaching speeds that most other smartphones cannot reach. There are 8GB of internal storage on the Samsung Galaxy that is roughly broken up into 6GB for media and 2GB for applications. If 8GB is simply not enough, the phone provides a microSD slot that accommodates cards of up to 32GB. Connectivity on the Galaxy is achieved via triband 900/1900/2100 HSDPA/HSUPA. Rounding out the package is Bluetooth 3.0 and a microUSB 2.0 port, making a smartphone.

Though the Galaxy certainly does not lack in the speed department, the phone truly excels with its display. The screen itself is a huge, 4-inch capacitive touchscreen that responds very well. It offers 800 x 480p resolution with Samsung’s Super AMOLED display, already a better option than the standard AMOLED and LCD displays of previous models. Super AMOLED also provides much better viewing on the Samsung Galaxy in direct sunlight than many other smartphones.

Samsung includes its own TouchWiz user interface on the Galaxy on top of Android 2.1. There might be a small learning curve for users familiar with the regular Android 2.1 interface, but TouchWiz has its own perks such as improvement to the notification bar. It maintains persistent shortcuts that allows users to toggle between vibrate and silent modes, Bluetooth, and WiFi. And the Samsung Galaxy puts its own spin on social networking with Social Hub. This function places Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter messages into one stream.

Samsung has produced high quality Android phones in the past, and it has continued to do so with the Samsung Galaxy. The device falls somewhere at the top of the market in speed and functionality. Customers will be more than pleased to own the Samsung Galaxy.

They say that chocolate is better than cell phones, right? Well, maybe that isn’t the exact adage. Cell phone manufacturer LG must have misunderstood the old saying because they decided to combine the richness of chocolate with a mobile phone model.

This phone is highly fashionable with a mirror-like shine that screams “Fifth Avenue.” The sleek, black design of this sliding phone with its glowing red buttons works well as both a women’s accessory or a man’s toy. Its design has actually earned the LG KG800 Chocolate the 2006 IF Design Award in Germany. Good luck keeping fingerprints off it, though.

LG brings into the forefront a new keypad feature that uses conductivity, rather then pressing, to activate a button. This is great if you are super careful with your phone but metal objects and wet fingers, or even moistness in the pouch, can damage the sensors. The keypad deactivates when the phone is closed and when you have connected a call to avoid accidental rubbings against your cheek or inside pockets.

Slider phones are often mistaken for clam-style but not so with the Chocolate. The sliding mechanism locks when it is closed so there’s no grabbing the top half and yanking it open.

The only real problem with the keypad, save the moisture or metal sensitivity, is that the buttons are rather small. Ladies (or men) with dainty, small fingers won’t likely notice this but men (or women) with large fingers and hands most definitely will. The 1-2-3 buttons are difficult to press for large fingers as well, since the top slides up so it just uncovers this top row of buttons. Some users won’t notice, others will. Make sure you test drive it before you sign a contract.

Of course, if you are looking into picking up the LG KG800 Chocolate to use as a phone, in addition to a fashion accessory, then you’ll want to know about it’s functionality. The battery life is far less than LG advertises, but that’s to be expected with almost any mobile phone these days. LG claims 16 days standby but you’ll probably only see half of that. Charging the phone requires opening the phone, making it susceptible to damage.

You’ll be able to see a wide range of vivid colors on the Chocolate, more than many other fashionable phones. LG offers 262,000 colors compared to just 65,000 on other models. Corners are sharp and images do not suffer from cell-phone haziness.

The buttons and menus aren’t intuitive, even if you are familiar with LG devices. Expect to spend some serious time up to 4 hours fiddling around with the phone while reading the manual. For the first few days you might find it a bit cumbersome but you’ll probably catch on pretty quickly. Once you get it down and know how to use it, you will find the menus response time is very fast. This phone isn’t plagued with the slow menus of other phones on the market.

As for application features, there isn’t much new here. You’ll get the standard messaging, file browsing, games and a variety of included sounds. You can download more games, MP3s and other music files in addition to ringtones and menu sounds relatively simply. You will get email, a quality-sound MP3 player and a web browser in addition to Java, still photograph and video capture. The phone book holds up to 1000 contacts. The LG Chocolate is Bluetooth enabled.

The camera, now pretty standard in the cell phone aisle, is 1.3 megapixel with resolutions up to 1280×960 pixels. There is an integrated LED flash for snapping pictures in low light and a night mode that reduces noise. Use the 2x digital zoom whilst snapping photos or the 4x zoom to crop and resize your images once the photo session has ended. You can also choose from a few color modes, including black & white, negative and sepia. The biggest complaint about the camera mode there is a very noticeable delay between pressing the button and actually capturing the image.

Video capture is considerably better than taking still photos. Night mode works on video as do the color settings. The Chocolate also allows for 4x zoom while shooting video.

Music files must be in MP3, WMA or mPEG format so it takes a bit of work to load audio from your iPOD to your LG Chocolate. The sound quality is very good for a phone. Standard 3.5mm headphones aren’t compatible, though; you’ll need to either purchase a pair of 2.5mm headphones or an adapter. The FM radio, becoming a standard in the mobile phone industry, was oddly left out of the Chocolate’s applications package.

Installed memory is 128 megabytes. If that isn’t enough or you just like keeping your data separate from your phone, you can pick up a 2 gigabyte microSD card for about $100 (often bundled at Verizon for $70 after rebate.)

Synching to your computer or accessing email is effortless with the Chocolate. While other phones have intermittent access via Bluetooth, this LG phone has a solid connection. Check your email or surf the web from the café or Trump’s house.

Jet setters will be disappointed with the omission of airplane mode on this phone. Other LGs offer this new feature, it’s beyond me why it was overlooked when designing the Chocolate.

So, how did this black, not brown, phone earn its name Chocolate? In the Korean market, where this model was pioneered and debuted, the phone was made to smell of you guessed it chocolate. The name stuck as did the scented design. Apparently LG didn’t like the competition between cell phones and chocolate so they decided to double-team their potential customers by combining the two.

The LG KG800 Chocolate is a great phone for those on the cutting edge of fashion or those who want to be. Don’t abuse it and you can take calls from your agent for a long time while getting faint whiffs of delicious chocolate. Don’t eat your phone, though, it doesn’t taste as well as it smells.

Have you ever spent what seems like ages in a frustrated frenzy digging through the chaos that is your current makeup storage unit? If this rings true to you, then you might want to start looking around for a new way to organize your cosmetics. We recommend you start your search with cosmetic cases.

You probably remember those days back when you were about 15 and your makeup collection was just starting to bud. You probably stored it all in a be-zippered cloth or plastic bag. That was okay then, but you should know better by now! Modern makeup cases are chock full of goodies to make your morning routine as smooth as possible. We’re going to talk about two very popular types of cosmetic cases: hard and soft.

Hard cases are generally made with an aluminum frame. Many aluminum cases also have reinforced corners to add that bit of extra protection for your things. These hard cases are available in two standard sizes: large (about the size of a small suitcase) and train case (smaller, about 2/3 the size of a large case). Don’t be tempted to believe that the “aluminum” part means you have to settle for a silver-colored bag. On the contrary, many new colors are being released all the time–even print designs! It is true that the most popular-selling colors are black and silver, however the following colors are also popular choices: pink, red, green, purple, and brown. Aside from the obvious advantage of the hard, protective shell, a special trait of the hard cases is that most of them have multi-tiered trays inside that slide out to display all of your things, then simply collapse back down into the case when you close it. Some have pockets or removable dividers for the belly of the case, making organization as easy as pie!

If a heavy duty aluminum case sounds a bit “more” than what you’re looking for, perhaps you should consider a soft cosmetic case. Soft cases have the added advantage of being lightweight and pocketed. If you desire more of a casual look, definitely consider a soft case; some are designed to look like a gym bag while others have a close resemblance to a fashionable handbag. Do you dig the idea of those cool multi-tiered expandable trays we mentioned when we talked about the hard cases? Don’t worry, some soft makeup cases have those, too! Some models even have zipper segments near the bottom of the bag that hide sectioned trays, which are great for hair accessories, nail supplies, and other small items that can get lost easily!

Whichever makeup case you decide to go with, take your time and do some research so that you’re more likely to be pleased with your purchase. They aren’t the cheapest organizer for your makeup, but they’re definitely worth the price when you consider the durability, convenience, and accessibility they can offer.

This article has been bought to you by Danny Ward. He loves his new iPhone, but was shell-shocked at the prices quoted when he tried to insure it. He has researched the market thoroughly and has developed a fantastic article on iPhone Insurance Review which will save you all money!

Whether we like it or not, as modern day users of high technology, we have all grown very used to the mobile phone or cell phone. The mobile phone is part of our daily range of “must have” tools that we carry along with us in our pockets or in our ladies handbags everywhere we go. After all, we do live in the age of instant communication and the mobile phone is that important tool that allows us to keep in touch with the office, to monitor our investments in stocks and shares, to talk with our loved ones, and to call for help if we are unfortunate enough to have a car breakdown.

As someone who traveled often, and as someone who view the use of the mobile phone as absolutely essential to communicate, I spare no efforts to follow the latest developments in mobile phone technology and the newer models for most major brands.

Thus, it was during one of my travels to Malaysia that I decided to buy a newer mobile phone which had the blue tooth technology some years ago when it was first released. The established “Sony” with its blue tooth technology, as a newer model of a mobile phone, had a small footprint, a sliding cover that would open to reveal the calling touch pads, was light, and it looked dashing, silvered colored on the casing and just the thing that I needed. Never mind the cost, it was one of the newest models at that time, and there was always a sacrifice in a higher price if ever I wanted newer technology.

So I happily paid by credit card and wrapped up the purchase. Within days I was back in Australia and using the mobile phone happily, until just 6 months later, it malfunctioned.

Whenever a newer mobile phone ever malfunctioned, and especially during its warranty period, there is a cause for concern. Newer mobile phone technology means a higher price, better technology, more durability, longer battery life and better features, but for this SONY model, there was cause for concern because it was my third mobile phone that I had in use, and it was therefore not constantly in use. Why then had it malfunctioned just after a short 6 months?

Checking the warranty card that came with the mobile phone revealed that as long as I could get the mobile phone shipped back to the agent that I purchased it from, I could get it repaired without charges as it was still under warranty. In fact, I could also get service for it as long as I could send it to an authorized Sony Service Center agent within Australia itself, but since I was going to be in Malaysia again, while it was still within the warranty period, I chose to give the distributor who sold the mobile phone to me another visit to get it repaired.

The sales agent dutifully noted the particulars of the Sony mobile phone, and said as it was one of the newer mobile phones, he would need to send it off to the authorized service center to repair it, and would give me a call as to the status of the repair. So I could heave a relief as I thought all things were being taken care off.

In the end, there was a conspicious absence of a phone call from the agent and getting in touch with them, I was told the mobile phone could not be repaired free of charge even during its warranty period!

Now, if you are a mobile phone user, this rings alarm bells…because when is it a warranty for an expensive branded mobile phone is not a warranty?

After all, the Sony mobile phone isn’t a brand of electronics and communication technology to be taken lightly- it is an established brand!

“We have opened up your mobile phone and we find it was mouldy inside. Your warranty is thus voided because of the mould!”, the agent repaired, probably reading from the report from the authorized service center.

Now, first of all, when I purchased the mobile phone, I was told that it was under warranty of 12 months from date of purchase, and that the warranty was even international. Secondly, the mobile phone was never in use excessively or exposed to water or rain. But while it was used in Australia where the climate was a little cooler than tropical Malaysia, the Sony mobile phone was well known for its good design, and I could hardly believe that all mobile phones would become mouldy because of the cooler climate and weather conditions in Mediterranean Australia. There was never a clause that said mould would void the warranty.

In the end, I had to fork out a sum of $200 to clean up the mould and to get the mobile phone functioning again some 3 months later, because by the time it was repaired, I was back in Australia and had to get a friend to retrieve it for me.

Now, the lesson of this experience is simple – Read the fine print of your warranty that comes with every purchase of your mobile phone.Just because what you buy is an established brand, never ever assume that its design is built to keep out the moisture or that it would not become mouldy inside, not even if it is a Sony. I was told it was standard policy to treat mouldy conditions within the mobile phone as a result of improper use of the mobile phone, rendering any warranty void.
While the mobile phone was a newer model, and I had always considered it an important part of my professional tools, there was never any case of mis-use of the mobile phone that could have allowed water to seep inside the mobile phone. If there was any mould, it would only have been the change of weather from the country of purchase and the country of use.

Let my experience be your guide, and pay attention to the fine print of your warranty so that you are sure whether mouldy conditions are covered under the warranty especially if you are going to use a mobile phone purchased overseas where there are different climatic conditions.

Avoid buying a lemon when you are shopping for a newer mobile phone. Visit your local Australian and New Zealand mobile phones online store Aussie Mobile Phones Store for free resources and to view the latest in mobile phones for the Australian and New Zealand region. Updated daily, the website has a vast array of mobile phones on offer for the discerning user, and provides an online shopping experience with a difference.
